Nutrition for running : carbs

When it comes to running, carbs are your best friend.

Why?

Because we generate cellular energy from carbohydrates quicker than the other macro nutrients (fats and protein). If you want to have enough energy to keep running consistently then you body is best able to do this by breaking down carbohydrates.

This is best illustrated if we work backwards from what we want our body to do to what we need to eat.

To run we need energy. The currency of energy in our body is ATP.
